GYLI Partner Organizations

GYLI has been fortunate to work with the highest quality organizations to develop its programs:

Teens Advocating a Global Vision (TAGV):  Formerly Teens Against Gang Violence, TAGV is based in Boston, MA, and its founder, Dr. Ulric Johnson, presents to every student that attends the GYLI Year 1 program.

Freedom Schooner Amistad:  The FSA is a replica of the original Amistad ship, on which captive slaves from Sierra Leone revolted, and were granted freedom by US courts.

Schooner Denis Sullivan: Wisconsin’s official flagship and a replica of the Great Lakes Schooners that ruled the lakes in the 19th Century, as well as a floating science lab.

Schooner Lettie G. Howard: Built in 1893, the Lettie G. Howard is a living testament to the rich maritime history of the Atlantic Seaboard.

Lama Foundation
: Lama’s unique location in Northern New Mexico is significant for its land as a historical place of peace between many Native American groups.

EARTH University: situated on 8,000 acres in the humid tropics, complete with a dairy farm, banana plantation, medicinal gardens, and tree nursery.  EARTH also uses a community development model that maximizes human and natural resources, and inspires GYLI participants to be change agents in the world.

United World Colleges (UWC): The UWC movement is made up of 13 International Baccalaureate schools around the world.  Its mission is to make education a force to unite people, nations, and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC): GYLI and IFYC are partnering in 2009-2010 for a series of 2-day workshop on religious pluralism in schools, as well as for GYLI Year 1 programs, at which IFYC trainers will present models of religious pluralism to GYLI students and faculty.

Youth Media Project (YMP): Youth Media Project aims to create the next generation of media in Northern New Mexico.  Their work ties together academic studies, radio broadcasts, and web-based interactivity to help young people tell stories and voice their opinions.
